Last Saturday, I had a fun day out visiting art galleries with the Colour Society. I discovered many talented Australian artists in the back street galleries of Darlinghurst.
I am excited to share a few of my favourite galleries and some of there exhibitors. The King Street Gallery is currently displaying Peter O’Doherty’s oil paintings. His paintings have a soft visual appeal and can look blurry. I particularly liked this outback landscape called After The Burn Off as it has a restful feel. The second photo is a close up of a section of this painting, to demonstrate his soft technique and warm colour palette.

At the Stanley Street Gallery, I loved James Barkers oil paintings. He uses bold blues, and loose brush strokes to create his tree compositions. His painting, Looking Up Through The Branches had a fantastic visual impact which would be a wonderful statement to a living room.
At the same gallery, Elizabeth Cummings oil paintings caught my eye, as they have a beautiful dreamy quality.

At the Conny Dietzschold Gallery, Julie Harris displayed her amazing abstract paintings. I was enchanted by her acrylic painting Mistavista, as I loved her use of colour, and it had a mystical feel about it. Her abstract paintings are created by using multiple layers of vibrant colour and by using various textural effects. She even exposes her wet canvases to the weather to achieve very interesting organic effects.

Hopefully, I have inspired you to visit some of the art galleries at Darlinghurst. The Sydney East Art Walk is a must for art lovers and here is a map to get you started.
